Ask to see clear health documentation for both parents. The exact tests can vary by country and breeding programme, but the kennel should provide evidence rather than relying only on verbal reassurance.
Observe the environment. Puppies should appear clean, curious and comfortable around people. Their mother should be available to see unless there is a genuine, clearly explained reason.
Discuss temperament and lifestyle honestly. A good kennel wants to know about your home, schedule, experience and expectations before recommending a puppy.
Read the contract before paying a deposit. It should explain identification, health records, payment terms, collection arrangements and the responsibilities of both parties.
Avoid pressure, secrecy, immediate collection offers and sellers with many unrelated breeds available at all times. Take enough time to verify every important detail.
